Experience to Make Pottery at Ngoc An Art Museum in Hue City

Details of experience:

Two well-known painters living in Hue City, Mr. Hoang Thanh Phong and Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, who are also famous painters in Vietnam, founded the Ngoc An Art Museum.

This center displays ceramic sculptures and a variety of unique paintings in many genres, covering lacquer, oil, acrylic, and silk.

The paintings here have high artistic value, and many have won awards at domestic and regional painting exhibitions. Almost all works in this space are original and have clear copyrights and work certificates.

In addition, when coming to Ngoc An, you can also participate in pottery-making activities with the guidance of Hue ceramic artisans.

This experience duration is about 45 minutes to 60 minutes.

Detail of pottery-making experience:

1. Welcome guests: the Ngoc An center welcomes you with typical filtered water units. You will have about 10 - 15 minutes to rest and admire the paintings in the exhibition area.

2. Receive aprons and clay and choose a turntable area to experience making pottery.

The center currently uses a traditional manual turntable, offering you the unique chance to test your skills by turning the wheel yourself while shaping pottery.

3. At the center, artisans will guide you through the pottery-making process, including how to shape the product, adjust the hand to get the right thickness, and create some basic patterns.

4. After the basic instructions, you can choose 1 of 2 different forms of experience, including:

• You can freely create a clay product according to your desired shape or pattern.
• Watch how the craftsman restores the royal tile patterns to print the royal patterns on the pottery. Then, practice making small ceramic vases by hand.

5. After that, you can draw other patterns on the product or use the plaster molds to print small decorative motifs in clay, which you can then attach to the product you have just molded.

6. It takes 10-15 minutes to dry the product with an electric oven. Once this process is complete, you will have a pottery product made by yourself to bring home as a souvenir or to show off to friends and relatives.

If you want the product baked to be more rigid and durable, you must wait 24 hours. The center will bake the product and deliver it to your hotel in Hue City.
