Hai Van Pass

Hai Van Pass is one of the most beautiful mountain passes in Vietnam. Its adventurous curves stand out amidst the majestic green mountains and forests.

The vast blue sky and sea seem in sight when reaching the top of the pass. That is also the moment when the hands of the romantic person touch the clouds hidden in the mountains or leisurely wander between the landscape of mountains and ocean.

Hai Van Pass is part of the Bach Ma mountain range and connects Da Nang and Hue cities. The boundary line runs across the top of the pass.

Hai Van Pass is about 20km long and 500m above sea level. Located on the journey from Hoi An, Da Nang to Hue and vice versa, it is always a highlight that elicits many exciting emotions in visitors.

The first feeling when the visitors' wheels roll smoothly on the pass is the majestic beauty of the vast mountains and forests. On one side, the green color of trees flows gently to the coastline. On the other side, towering mountains and forests stretch all the way to the curtain of clouds that separates the land and sky.

If you start from the North of Hai Van, remember to ask the driver to stop for a few minutes halfway up the pass. From here, Lang Co Bay and Lap An Lagoon are encapsulated in your lens in a strangely beautiful way. The blue sea, white sand, and golden sunshine lie quietly as if cocooning and caressing at the foot of the pass.

As soon as you realize you are lost in the vastness of nature, you will also feel the adventure and attraction of passing through zigzag bends.

There will be a slight swaying, a little soaring, mixed with a bit of anxiety, so you will burst into a feeling of joy when you reach the top of the pass.

In particular, when you come here early in the morning or late in the afternoon, you will admire the white clouds floating around the mountain tops and slopes of the pass. It resembles a vast sea of clouds, exuding an ethereal, hazy beauty like a fairyland.

Occasionally, a few mischievous clouds drift across the winding road, gently hanging on the mountainside like pure white cherry blossoms on the silk belt of a forgotten fairy.

From the top of Hai Van Pass, looking to the South, Da Nang City is shrunk in your sight. High-rise buildings and interwoven streets lean out to the sea like a precious gem shining brightly in the vast nature.

The top of Hai Van Pass also contains the most majestic building: Hai Van Quan - the Great Gate of Hai Van. The project was built in 1826, under the reign of King Minh Mang, for military purposes and was the gateway on the old path leading through the top of the pass.

After nearly 200 years, Hai Van Quan was closed for renovation from 2022 to 2024. This relic is now open to visitors again. It is an ideal location to take photos and admire the outstanding natural beauty.

Along the road, along the top of this pass, are a few small shops where you can rest and sip hot tea or coffee. The prices of drinks and snacks here are reasonable so that you can stop by for a while.

However, besides the convenience that small shops bring, there is a hassle when visitors sometimes encounter annoying invitations and solicitations. Let's ignore it and happily enjoy your wonderful time!
