Thuy Bieu Village in Hue City

Only 4 km southwest of the city center of Hue, Thuy Bieu still resembles a peaceful classic Vietnamese village with fragrant grapefruit gardens and hundred-year-old houses.

Thuy means Water, and Bieu is a container. Thuy Bieu should be understood as the Water Container. Its name can come from the position of three sides of Thuy Bieu surrounded by the poetic Perfume River (Huong Giang).

Thuy Bieu Ward retains many unique and ancient architectural works, including the Ho Quyen and Voi Re arenas. The place also hosted vital matches between elephants and tigers in the past.

The first highlight of Thuy Bieu is the system of ancient houses over 100 years old. This type of house has many pillars and rafters. Most of the communal houses in Hue face to the south and are made of solid wood, ironwood, or jackfruit wood. They are considered typical Ruong houses in Hue City, cool in summer and warm in winter.

The gardens in Thuy Bieu are almost fence-free, with only short rows of trimmed trees separating one from another.

Among the fruits here, the most attractive are grapefruits or pomelos. Pomelos are not big and heavy but have a sweet taste. Despite harvesting only one season, the pomelo trees give Thuy Bieu Village tranquil beauty and coolness, which makes this place green all year round.

Spring (Feb – April) is the white flowers of fragrant grapefruits, and summer is the green of young grapefruits. In autumn (October to the beginning of November), Thuy Bieu attracts visitors full of fruits, stretching branches to cover the village roads and dangling and swinging on the tourists’ heads.

At any time, just walking into the famous Pomelo Gardens in Thuy Bieu, you can immerse yourself in the fresh and peaceful atmosphere of the Hue countryside. And, it will always be remembered if you can feel the aromatic and sweet taste of the famous grapefruits here.

With these conditions, Thuy Bieu Village is one of the famous Hue attractions. With narrow roads and a tranquil life, it attracts many tourists who come to explore its typical beauty.

With a bike, it is easy to ride down the small village roads, stop to look at grapefruit gardens, visit the old houses, or take pictures of the peaceful life of the local people.

Explore this place for around 3 hours. However, if you want to spend more time here, you can book and join a cooking class, which is an excellent chance to stay at Thuy Bieu village and interact with the local people.
